In July Louise and I headed North to the Lake district in Bellamy for a week away. To help break up the journey we met up with my parents for a couple of hours in the stunning ‘Un-stateley Home’ Calke Abbey Derbyshire. What makes this house and grounds is summed up from by the National Trust.
When the house was handed to the National Trust in 1985, many of its rooms had been adandoned for decades and were in a state of rapid decline. We’ve decided not to restore these rooms, but rather preserve them as they were found.
The number of items that litter the rooms is amazing, I don’t think the owners ever threw anything anyway. It’s a fantastic place to spend a few hours or even a day, it’s one of my favourite National Trust locations and I’d encourage everyone to visit as it’s a little bit special.
